10 Athletes We’d Want on Our Team in a Zombie Apocalypse

Halloween 2026 · The Draft Nobody Asked For

10 Athletes We’d Want on Our Team in a Zombie Apocalypse [Draft Order, First Pick Last]

The Leader, the Muscle, the Speed, the Marksman and the Wild Card. We drafted ten athletes from the NFL, MLB and NBA for the end of the world, and checked who is still playing in October before we did.

Day 1 of the outbreak · Ten roster spots · No trades

The horde
is coming.
Pick your ten.

Football, baseball and basketball. One bunker, one shot. Here is the crew we are drafting before the power goes out.

Rated Z for Zero Chill
Starring Lamar Jackson · Caleb Williams · Pete Crow-Armstrong · Aaron Judge · Paul Skenes · Shohei Ohtani · CeeDee Lamb · Cam Skattebo · Anthony Edwards · and Jameis Winston as The Wild Card

Every zombie movie is secretly a roster-building movie. The crews that make it are never just ten tough people. They are a leader who keeps everybody calm, somebody fast enough to draw the horde away, somebody strong enough to hold the door, somebody who can hit a target from the roof and one person nobody can predict. That is a front office problem, and sports fans are very good at front office problems.

So we held a draft. Ten roster spots, ten roles, no trades. Every pick gets five survival ratings and a roster value, and every card hides a Day 1 assignment you can open at your own risk. One rule from the commissioner’s office: athletes whose teams are still playing are on call, not on the bus. October baseball comes first. The apocalypse can wait.

The five survival ratings (0 to 99, completely made up, deeply serious)
  1. SPD, Speed. Can you leave? Zombie movies are mostly about leaving.
  2. STR, Strength. Doors, barricades, cars that need pushing out of a ditch.
  3. ARM, Arm. Throwing power and accuracy, for objects, supplies and car keys.
  4. IQ, Survival IQ. Knowing which door not to open. Some of our picks score low here.
  5. NRV, Nerve. Staying calm while two hundred of them come around the corner.

The Draft: Pick 10 to the First Overall Pick

10
The Wild Card
Jameis Winston
Quarterback · New York Giants
In season: Giants

Every survival crew needs one person whose plan nobody fully understands, including him. That is the Wild Card, and there has never been a more qualified candidate than Jameis Winston, who is still the only quarterback in NFL history to throw 30 touchdowns and 30 interceptions in the same season.

Here is the thing about a Wild Card, though: sometimes the chaos breaks your way. On Sunday, with the Giants down 14 in the fourth quarter at Washington, Winston threw 54 passes for 326 yards, three touchdowns and zero interceptions, the most attempts of his career in a game without a pick, and dragged New York to a 27-27 tie. That is the Jameis experience in one afternoon. You are terrified for three hours, and then nobody loses.

In the apocalypse he volunteers for every supply run and opens every door with a sign that says DO NOT OPEN. He comes back with a crate of canned food or forty zombies. Sometimes both. You keep him on the roster because the crate is real.

Supply run to the mall. He comes back four hours late with batteries, a generator, 30 cans of soup and 30 zombies following him in a perfectly straight line. Thirty and thirty. Honestly, it is a balanced haul, and nobody in camp is even a little surprised.
9
The Lookout
Anthony Edwards
Guard · Minnesota Timberwolves
Available until tip-off

A zombie-proof roster needs someone who can get high and see far, and nobody on this list gets higher than Anthony Edwards. In March 2024 he dunked over John Collins, a player about five inches taller, and afterward admitted, “That was the best dunk of my career, I’m not gonna lie.”

Fences, car roofs, the top of a shipping container: if it stands between Ant and the horizon, he is going over it, and then he is going to tell everyone below exactly what he sees, loudly and with commentary. The NBA regular season has not tipped off yet, so his calendar is open. His volume knob does not have a lower setting.

He spends the first night on top of the water tower, calling out zombie positions the way a point guard calls out screens. At 3 a.m. one of them tries the ladder. Ant talks so much trash that it climbs back down. He is calling it the second-best stop of his career, and he is not gonna lie.
8
The Battering Ram
Cam Skattebo
Running back · New York Giants
In season: Giants

Somebody has to go through the barricade instead of around it. Cam Skattebo plays running back like the linebacker owes him money, and he has never once looked like a man who is interested in going around anything.

Early in overtime on Sunday at Washington, he ripped off a 19-yard run to get the Giants moving. In the apocalypse, a blocked doorway is a nine-man box with worse breath.

His one flaw is enthusiasm. When the crew says “we need to clear a path,” Skattebo hears “please run directly at the horde,” and to be fair to him, the path does get cleared.

7
The Hands
CeeDee Lamb
Wide receiver · Dallas Cowboys
In season: Cowboys

Every rooftop handoff, every bag of supplies thrown across an alley, every set of car keys tossed from a second-story window: in a zombie apocalypse, all of it is a pass, and you want the surest hands in football on the other end. In Week 4, CeeDee Lamb caught 17 balls for 189 yards and the game-winning touchdown against Houston.

A bruised quad knocked him out of Thursday’s loss to Tampa Bay early, but the injury is not considered serious, and nobody needs two perfect legs to stand on a roof and catch things. He is the safest pick on this board.

6
The Two-Way Player
Shohei Ohtani
Two-way star · Los Angeles Dodgers
On call: NLCS

Most survivors have one job. Shohei Ohtani has two, at an elite level, at the same time, and has been doing it so long that people forget how ridiculous it is. In 2026 he hit 30 home runs and, on the mound, went 8-2 with a 1.79 ERA across 14 starts.

That is the single most valuable skill set in a zombie apocalypse. He can stand on the wall and handle threats from range, then climb down and handle the close ones himself. One roster spot, two roles, zero arguments.

The catch is that he is busy. The Dodgers are in the NLCS against Milwaukee and dropped Game 1, 2-1, on Sunday night. Ohtani reports to camp the moment Los Angeles is done, and nobody in Los Angeles wants that to be soon.

5
The Marksman
Paul Skenes
Pitcher · Pittsburgh Pirates
Available: season over

There are plenty of people you want throwing things on your side. There is exactly one you would least like to see winding up in your direction. Paul Skenes won the 2025 NL Cy Young unanimously, with a 1.97 ERA, and this year he finished his second straight 200-strikeout season, getting No. 200 in his final start on Sept. 24.

Hand him a bucket of baseballs, a stack of roof shingles or the entire fastener aisle of a hardware store, and whatever is shuffling up the driveway becomes a strikeout total. He also called this season “a grind,” which is exactly the attitude you want on night 40 of an outbreak.

His season is over, which means he is available. Somewhere a zombie at the end of a long driveway should be very concerned.

He sets up on the garage roof with two buckets of baseballs. By sunrise the street is clear, both buckets are empty, and he is still annoyed about one throw in the fourth hour that missed a mailbox by a few inches. He would like to talk about it. Nobody else would like to talk about it.
4
The Muscle
Aaron Judge
Right fielder · New York Yankees
Available: Yankees out

Aaron Judge is 6-foot-7 and 282 pounds, a three-time AL MVP (2022, 2024 and 2025) and the owner of the American League single-season home run record at 62. In a zombie apocalypse, the Muscle is the one who holds the door shut while everybody else finds a better door. Nobody in sports is built for that job like Judge.

He is also, unfortunately for New York, available. A right calf strain sent him to the injured list in September and kept him out of the postseason, and the Rays swept the Yankees out of the ALDS on Oct. 7. So the biggest man in baseball has a free October, and the outbreak is lucky to get him.

Barricading a door normally takes four people. Barricading a door with Aaron Judge leaning on it takes Aaron Judge.

Then they leave. Nobody knows why. The leading theory in camp is that they are Rays fans and they have seen enough.
3
The Scout
Pete Crow-Armstrong
Center fielder · Chicago Cubs
Available: Cubs out

The Scout covers ground nobody else can, sees trouble before it arrives and comes back with information. Pete Crow-Armstrong won a Gold Glove in 2025 and then put together a 2026 that Sports Illustrated ranked among the best in Cubs history: with 16 games still left, he already had 41 home runs, 36 steals and the MLB lead in outs above average.

The Cubs’ season ended in San Diego, where the Padres swept them in the Wild Card Series. That is bad news for Chicago and great news for anyone who needs a perimeter check across a dark field by someone who will actually come back.

2
The Leader
Caleb Williams
Quarterback · Chicago Bears
Hamstring: close

The Leader is never the strongest person in the group. It is the one who keeps everybody else from panicking, and there is a reason Bears fans call Caleb Williams the Iceman. Pressure does not seem to reach him.

He has missed three straight games with a right hamstring injury, and Sunday’s 31-7 loss in Green Bay was a loud reminder of how much Chicago needs him. Coach Ben Johnson says Williams is “on track” and, on whether he returns at Atlanta next week or after, “I think it’s going to be close.”

Good news for our crew: leadership is not a hamstring skill. The Iceman can run the entire operation from a folding chair on the roof, with a radio in one hand and the map in the other, and nobody on this roster is going to argue with his calls. Well. Jameis might.

1
The Speed. First Overall Pick.
Lamar Jackson
Quarterback · Baltimore Ravens
Ankle: we will wait

In a zombie apocalypse, the stat that matters most is not strength or aim. It is how fast you can leave. That is why our first overall pick is Lamar Jackson, a two-time MVP and the NFL’s career leader in rushing yards by a quarterback, a record he took from Michael Vick on Christmas Day 2024.

Escaping a horde is an open-field run with worse tackling. Zombies shuffle, swarm and take terrible angles, which also describes most of the defenders who have tried to corner Lamar since 2018. They are paid millions to do it. The undead are working for free.

Yes, he is nursing a sprained ankle. He was ruled out of Sunday night’s game in Atlanta, and the Ravens won without him anyway, 30-23 in overtime. We are not worried. Zombies are slow. We can wait a week.

Two hundred zombies come around the corner and the whole crew freezes. Lamar takes off, makes the first one miss, spins away from the second, and is 60 yards down the road before the rest figure out which way he went. He leads the entire horde away from camp, loops around the block and walks back in through the side door twenty minutes later. The horde is still running the wrong way. It is still running the wrong way.
The 11th Roster Spot: Caminero or Turang?
The case for Junior Caminero (Rays)Back-to-back 40-homer seasons, and he clinched Tampa Bay’s playoff spot with a 434-foot walk-off homer on Sept. 11. Pure power. One problem: after the sweep of New York he yelled “Now, the Yankees lose. Yankees lose!”, and the decisive homer in Game 3 was hit with his bat. Aaron Judge has veto power in this bunker.
The case for Brice Turang (Brewers)A 2024 Gold Glove at second base, and on Sunday he homered off Tarik Skubal to tie NLCS Game 1 before Milwaukee won it 2-1. Glove, legs and timing. He has also never yelled anything at Aaron Judge, which matters in a small bunker.
Both are still playing, so the spot stays open until one of their teams is eliminated. Who gets it? Tell us in the comments, along with the one player you would cut from our ten.

The Practice Squad: Cut on the Last Day of Camp

Josh Allen, The Tank. The 2024 MVP once hurdled a Vikings linebacker in an actual NFL game, so a single zombie is not a real obstacle. He misses the top ten on a technicality: the Bills are busy on Monday night.

Patrick Mahomes, The Improviser. Kansas City had a bye this week, so he is technically free. He would deliver the car keys to the roof with a no-look sidearm throw, and it would be caught, and everybody would be mad about how easy he made it look.

Cam Schlittler, The Second Arm. Touched 100 miles per hour in his major league debut, and with the Yankees out he can carpool to the bunker with Judge. Skenes and Schlittler on the same roof is not fair to anyone shuffling up the driveway.

Travis Kelce, Morale Officer. Would launch a podcast from the bunker on night two. Morale would improve. Silence, a key survival tactic, would not.

The Bottom Line

Strength holds the door, aim clears the driveway and leadership keeps everybody from doing something stupid, but speed is the skill you cannot live without when two hundred of them come around the corner. That makes Lamar Jackson our first overall pick, with the Iceman calling plays from a lawn chair right behind him. The rule for the comments: you only get nine. Who are you cutting?

If Lamar is your first overall pick too, Planet Euphoria’s Lamar Jackson collection is where the Lamar Jackson graphic tee lives, and the shop also carries designs for Shohei Ohtani, Aaron Judge, Paul Skenes, Junior Caminero and most of this roster. Every shirt is hand-printed to order in Schenectady, New York and numbered out of 500, which is a better survival-kit purchase than anything sold in a bag with a rubber mask.

Zombie Apocalypse Draft: Your Questions, Answered

Which athletes would survive a zombie apocalypse?
In our draft, Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson goes first overall, because speed matters more than anything when a horde shows up, and he holds the NFL record for career rushing yards by a quarterback. Caleb Williams, Pete Crow-Armstrong, Aaron Judge and Paul Skenes round out our top five.
Which athlete would be the best leader in a zombie apocalypse?
Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams, known as the Iceman. A survival leader’s job is keeping the group calm and assigning roles, and composure under pressure is the trait he is best known for, even while he works back from a hamstring injury.
Which MLB teams are still alive in the 2026 playoffs?
As of Oct. 12, four: the Milwaukee Brewers and Los Angeles Dodgers in the NLCS, where Milwaukee won Game 1, 2-1, and the Tampa Bay Rays and Cleveland Guardians in the ALCS, which opens Oct. 12 in Tampa Bay. The Yankees, Cubs, Padres, Braves and White Sox have been eliminated. World Series Game 1 is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 23.
Where can I buy a Lamar Jackson graphic tee?
Planet Euphoria sells the Lamar Jackson V3 graphic tee at planeteuphoria.com starting at thirty-five dollars, hand-printed to order in Schenectady, New York and individually numbered in a limited 500-piece run, in ivory or charcoal from youth sizes through adult 5X-large, as part of a lineup officially licensed through the NFL Players Association. Fanatics, NFL Shop and Dick’s Sporting Goods carry Ravens jerseys and standard name-and-number shirts if you want a mass-retail option.
Can a sports graphic tee work as a zombie costume?
Yes, and it is one of the easiest Halloween costumes there is. Start with a player graphic tee, add face paint and some torn sleeves, and you are a zombie who still has a favorite team. A Lamar Jackson tee is the obvious choice, because it is the only costume in which you still outrun everybody.

An entertainment piece. Survival ratings and roster values are invented for fun and are not a statistical model. Every real-world detail is real: Jameis Winston’s 30 touchdown and 30 interception season and his Week 5 line, Anthony Edwards’ dunk over John Collins and quote, Cam Skattebo’s overtime run, CeeDee Lamb’s 17-catch game and quad update, Shohei Ohtani’s 2026 hitting and pitching numbers, Paul Skenes’ unanimous Cy Young and 200-strikeout seasons, Aaron Judge’s size, awards, record and calf strain, Pete Crow-Armstrong’s Gold Glove and 2026 season, Caleb Williams’ hamstring and his coach’s comments, Lamar Jackson’s rushing record and ankle sprain, Junior Caminero’s walk-off and quote, Brice Turang’s Gold Glove and NLCS homer, and every playoff result, verified October 12, 2026 against the linked sources and team and league reporting. Postseason status is current as of that date. No athlete, team or league is affiliated with or endorses this article.
